To continue our work in light of the coronavirus/COVID-19 situation, Manomet is expanding our virtual programming. We invite you to join us for a webinar presentation with Manomet’s Shorebird team and partners on Friday, April 24, 2020, at 3 p.m. EST.

Curlews, including Whimbrel, are the largest and most recognizable shorebirds in North America. With their long curved bills, these iconic birds of wetlands, grasslands, coastlines, and marshes inspire people around the world. Under threat of extinction, the world’s curlews are disappearing. As an example, a cousin of the Whimbrel, the Eskimo Curlew that once migrated through the Americas by the millions, is now extinct.

Join us in celebration of World Curlew Day and Earth Day for the stories behind the story of Whimbrel migration. We will explore the migration of one Whimbrel, named Postel. Postel was outfitted with a solar-powered transmitter and we will follow his migration, and have a unique opportunity to talk with some of the people working across the Americas to understand and protect this species.
