Join Manomet’s Abby Sterling and Lydia Thompson, artist and author of the children’s book Willa Gets Her Friendship Bands, to learn all about Wilson’s Plovers. Abby and Lydia will read the book and talk about how the story came to life. You’ll learn about the art of drawing birds and nature and how scientists study nesting plovers. We’ll also talk about how we can all keep nesting plovers and other shorebirds safe.
Meet our speakers
Lydia Thompson has a life-long passion for birds and is a huge advocate for coastal species, including shorebirds. In addition to her love of birds, she’s also a talented artist, and she combines these two worlds to connect people with the conservation of species and places.
As Director of the Georgia Bight Shorebird Conservation Initiative, Abby Sterling is focused on achieving measurable progress for shorebirds along the South Carolina, Georgia, and Northern Florida coasts. Abby works directly with stakeholders actively involved in shorebird conservation, identifying research and management objectives, building education and outreach efforts, and increasing partnerships.
Join us Wednesday, April 14, 2021, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to learn all about Wilson’s Plovers, art, and science. Bring your kids and grandchildren to this family-friendly online event!
