The Manomet Center is proud to support the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust’s 2011 environmental lecture series. Speakers will explore shifts in fresh and salt water systems, forestry and agriculture. As the landscape adapts to change, can we adjust our own needs and expectations?
September 28 – Changing Expectations for Water
Manomet is developing climate adaptation solutions for select locations in the Northeast, including the Kennebec Estuary. What can we expect? Brand new LIDAR data on local sea level rise from Maine State Geologist Peter Slovinsky, and approaches to storm water management by Ray Sirois of Wright-Pierce.
October 27 – Changing Expectations for Forests & Agriculture
Manomet’s Andy Whitman and Bath City Arborist, Tom Hoerth discuss how urban and community forests help towns adapt to increasing temperatures and rainfall. Farmland Protection Specialist Stephanie Gilbert tells us how agricultural conservation initiatives can allow local food to flourish.
November 16 – Planning for a Changing Landscape
Maine State Climatologist George Jacobson will help us understand (really, he can make it clear!) the influence of climate variation on Maine; plus land use expert Evan Richert will share planning methods that can best position our region for the future.
