A flock of shorebirds is great…but twice as many is better!

With more than 55 years of science work behind us, Manomet Conservation Sciences is entering a new era. We are forging a resilient future that continues to rely on strong science and collaboration. Manomet scientists across the Americas are monitoring shorebirds, their amazing migratory journeys, and the marine ecosystems on which they depend.

WHAT OUR SCIENTISTS ARE DOING NOW

At Manomet Conservation Sciences (MCS), we are gathering and analyzing data to inform our conservation work. We work in the Arctic tundra, seaside mudflats, and in boats, planes, and helicopters to monitor marine and avian life to help ensure species survival, sustainable ecosystems, and strong coastal economies. Hundreds of organizations and communities across the Western Hemisphere rely on MCS data to implement conservation to ensure that shorebirds are not just surviving but thriving. Likewise, we learn from local partners and share their successful strategies with our growing networks across the Americas.

RECENT MAJOR IMPACTS

Here are just a few examples of the many impacts we have made this past year working from the Arctic to the tip of Argentina:

  • Alongside partners in the Teshekpuk Lake Special Area in Alaska, we surveyed 3.5 million acres of shorebird breeding habitat.
  • In Maine, 12.2 million river herring were counted by volunteers and staff and logged onto the Gulf of Maine River Herring Network, a collaboration between Manomet Conservation Sciences and the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries.
  • Using satellite transmitters, 250,000 miles of Whimbrel migration were tracked across the Western Hemisphere.

HELP US SOAR: FLEXIBLE FUNDING

The great news is that Manomet is growing and doing very well! A recognized leader in shorebird recovery, coastal resilience, and education, we are securing great support from foundations and government at every level for our work. But where we still need your help is with the flexible funding
that provides start-up dollars for new innovative ideas that need to be tested before any large funder will support them. Flexible unrestricted funding also covers the supporting functions that give our hardworking program staff members all the tools and resources they need to succeed.

DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS: A SPECIAL MATCH

And, we have great news: your contribution today through the end of September will be doubled! A group of generous donors recognizes that we can’t achieve our work without friends like you giving at all levels, large and small. They have provided matching funds that will double your gift dollar-for-dollar to help reach our financial goal by September 30 or when matching funds run out.

Simply put, we need you. Individuals are the main source of this vital flexible funding. Your gifts allow Manomet Conservation Sciences to be responsive and innovative as we work for a world where ecosystems and human communities thrive together.

Make a positive impact today! Your flexible, unrestricted gift will help leverage many times as much from institutions and government sources. And from today through September 30 – or when all matching funds are used – your gift will be doubled.
