We invite you to join us on Saturday, February 1 for a morning of sowing winter seeds! Winter sowing is a great way to start seeds outdoors in containers (clear milk and juice jugs work great) so that the seeds stratify effectively and are ready to transplant into the ground in the spring and summer. This method of care encourages seeds to grow so that they are strong and healthy when they emerge as seedlings.
We will be sowing native milkweed seeds collected from the Manomet farm! Favored by many pollinators, milkweed is also an important host plant of the Monarch Butterfly and is essential for healthy caterpillar growth and development into butterflies. We ask that all participants come prepared to dig around in potting soil and we encourage you to bring your own containers! Gallon milk jugs are perfect for winter sowing; however, any clear containers will work well. When we are done, you can bring your seeds home or leave them at Manomet to be planted in our meadow in the spring. We look forward to seeing you there!
Free to attend – Registration is required.
