The rufa Red Knot, an Arctic breeding migrant shorebird with wintering habitats as far south as Tierra del Fuego, has experienced a drastic population decline over the past twenty years and is in danger of extinction within the next ten. Protecting a bird with a 10,000-mile migration that spans many countries requires an international approach to conservation.

Manomet is working with regional, national and international partners to assess threats to rufa Red Knot populations, collect and publish data and outline metrics for recovery. Manomet’s rufa Red Knot recovery project has set a population goal of 60,000 by 2020. Support our efforts to recover the populations of Red Knots and other imperiled shorebird species here.
