We invite you to join us on Saturday, January 11, at a fascinating author event co-sponsored by Wildlands Trust. We’ll welcome ornithologist and author Tina Morris, who will tell the remarkable story of Return to the Sky: The Surprising Story of How One Woman and Seven Eaglets Helped Restore the Bald Eagle.
The reintroduction of the Bald Eagle in North America is justifiably regarded as one of the world’s great conservation success stories. Ravaged by DDT, the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extirpation in the United States by the 1960s. Alone in a vast wildlife refuge with little direction and no experience, Tina Morris, a student at the Cornell University, found herself responsible for a project of historical importance—to bring the Bald Eagle back from near extinction. The challenges were immense—there were no precedents to follow for a species as large as the Bald Eagle. However, Tina soon realized that her journey of self-discovery and personal growth was intricately linked to the survival of the species she had been chosen to protect.
Ultimately, Tina spent two years playing “mother” to seven eaglets at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, east of Seneca Falls in New York. Driven by her passion, she discovered unknown reserves of patience, determination, and grit. At a time when the mass extinction of bird species is a critical global issue, Return to the Sky reminds us that, with a mix of common sense, resilience, and resolve, humans can be effective stewards of the natural world.
Following Tina’s presentation, we invite you to join us for a lively Q&A session, light refreshments, and an opportunity for a book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
Free to attend – Registration is required.
Note: This event will be held at The Barn at Wildland’s Trust:
