Come see Happy Fish, chat with local scientists, and try a new craft brew!

Join us on Friday, April 19th from 5-8pm at the Plymouth Center for the Arts to kick off our herring migration festivities! Grab a drink and hors d’oeuvres, take photos with Happy Fish, and hear from local scientists as they highlight the importance of migratory fish passages and conservation efforts (6-7pm). And don’t forget to try IndieFerm‘s “Anadromous Ale”, a fun reference to herring being anadromous fish!

Happy Fish©, created by World Fish Migration Day, is a symbol that connects people, organizations, and projects aiming to restore free-flowing rivers for fish populations. Get excited as Happy Fish makes its way to Plymouth, MA!

This is a free event. Registration is encouraged.

Meet the presenters

Dr. Alex Haro is a Scientist Emeritus, Fish Biologist with the Fish Passage Design and Analysis Team at the S.O. Conte Anadromous Fish Research Center (Eastern Ecological Science Center, U.S. Geological Survey) in Turners Falls, MA. Dr. Haro’s research has involved migratory fish behavior, design and evaluation of fish passage structures, and biology and management of anguillid eels. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Conservation.

Dr. Haro will be joining Happy Hour with Happy Fish to present “The Forgotten Fish: Past, Present, and Future of the American Eel” at 6pm.

Jimmy Powell is the ecology program director for the Jones River Watershed Association in Kingston, MA. While out working to help restore diadromous fish passage in the region he always packs a camera to share images of our regional wildlife with those who follow his online photo gallery jonesriver.smugmug.com – which has become a hit with regional conservationists.

Jimmy will be sharing his adventures, and stunning photos, during his presentation “Bird Photography, from the Backyard to the Saltmarsh” at 6:30pm.
