Manomet Scientists

A dime-sized satellite tracker transmitting near-real-time movements… a handheld device that can analyze the DNA found in a water sample to determine which species are present… this might sound like science fiction, but for Manomet’s scientists, it’s just another day in the field.

Join us on December 16 as we pull back the curtain to give you a look at the technology that empowers our science. Dr. Marissa McMahan, Manomet’s Fisheries Director, and Dr. Shiloh Schulte, Senior Shorebird Scientist, will explain some of the technology we’re employing in our work to improve the health of flyways, coastal ecosystems, and working lands and seas.

Learn how technology allows Manomet scientists to track shorebirds migrating more than 15,000 miles each year, discover critical habitat for birds’ survival, and prioritize conservation efforts to maximize our impact. We’ll also share more about the game-changing research tool, Environmental DNA (eDNA), and how we’re using it to understand species distribution and abundance to improve conservation management.

This online learning event, “Using Technology To Empower Science,” will take place on Thursday, December 16, at 3:00 pm Eastern / Noon Pacific. Register today!
